About the Blog

Odds are, you’re here because you want to explore the intriguing world of Zero Waste and sustainable living. (Go ahead and stalk a little; it’s super interesting!)

I’m sure you have questions, so I’m here to show you that Zero Waste living is not quite as complex as it seems. It’s simply a combination of a few altered habits and a whole lot of willpower.

The Zero Waste Memoirs is for you if:

  • You’re looking for new ways to make your home safer and more sustainable.
  • You’re setting out to change the world, one reusable coffee mug at a time.
  • Or you’re a difference-maker hunting for creative strategies to reduce waste and consumption.

This blog is for all of you: world-changers, difference-makers, weekend-warriors, and even the skeptics! Spend some time here, soak up the inspiration, and see what difference you can make in your own life.

And as always, live lightly and brightly.

About The Memoirs

The Zero Waste Memoirs launched in June 2016 as an online diary of my transition from living an average, American, 20-something life to that of a Zero Waster. It can be hard to navigate the world of green living!

The Zero Waste Memoirs is a resource for anyone seeking out what it means to live a waste-free, elegant life, without sacrificing time, money, or convenience.

Here in this space, readers can ask questions, get personalized advice, and find tips on all aspects of sustainable living – from ethical fashion and beauty, to conservation and eating a plant-based, balanced diet.

About the Founder

I started this blog as the girl who shopped too much and then turned around to send tons of trash to the curb. My life up until the beginning of my Zero Waste journey tended toward a cycle of purchasing, decluttering and donating stuff.

Today, thanks to a lot of determination and the support of my incredible husband I’ve been able to launch this beautiful project in the name of living “lightly and brightly” and we are all the better for it.

Here’s my story.

My name is Lauren Bowen and I am a 20-something blogger and copywriter living and working at the base of the Rocky Mountains in beautiful Cheyenne, Wyoming. I grew up in The Pacific Northwest and moved to mountain country with my husband after graduating from Seattle Pacific University with my master’s degree in Social & Sustainable Business Management.

With a background in digital marketing and content strategy, I launched my freelance writing business and The Zero Waste Memoirs in 2015 and 2016, respectively. You can find out more about that part of my life here.

When I am not pouring my heart and energy into my freelance business or this passion project, you’ll find me thrifting for unique vintage treasures, playing Bach on the piano, or cuddling my sweet kitty Andy while reading a new mystery on my Kindle.

Thank you for being here!
